Our Experts Expose Their Picture-Perfect Photoshoot Locations in Calgary
It’s the event-of-the-year. You’re looking for that unique location to capture the occasion for posterity. I chatted with some of my expert photographer friends about this. Here are their favourite photoshoot locations for capturing those treasurable moments. You should explore these locations and, if you like what you see, show my connections some love by following them.
📸 Nose Hill Park:
- A great view of the city, but you may need to walk a distance to get here from any convenient parking.
- A great location for winter weddings because you’re elevated enough to catch a sunset.
- Offers a variety of options for treed areas or open spaces.
- Great opportunity for good lighting with no buildings blocking out light.
- Minimal interference by the public.

- Many Owls Valley parking lot off John Laurie Blvd NW;
- Macewan Park View NW at the pond and copse of trees;
📸 Crescent Heights & McHugh Bluff Stairs:
- A great view of the city as a backdrop.
- Easy access to free street parking on Crescent Road NW.
- Great opportunity for good lighting with no buildings blocking out light.
- Offers that perfect “park” feeling, florals, paved pathways and beautiful sunset opportunities overlooking the bow river.

- Mc Hugh Bluff stairs at 240 Crescent Rd NW;
- Near the intersection of Crescent Rd NW and 10th Av NW
📸 Inglewood:
- Great colors.
- Fun character and city vibe that is under-utilized for wedding photography.
- Perfect for that inner-city vibe
- Lots of bricked walls, back alleys, coffee shops and buildings to stimulate the creative juices.
📸 Fish Creek Park:
- The possibilities are endless. You can get the mountain feel without going to the mountains.
- Creeks, ponds, pathways, trees, greenery, meadows, forests.
- Meadow Muse: A beautiful outdoor amphitheatre, paved pathway in green treed areas, open field, bridge with a creek, Annie’s cafe with ice-cream shop for some whimsical fun; a very versatile place!

📸 Prince’s Island Park:
- Offers that perfect “park” feeling, florals, paved pathways and beautiful sunset opportunities overlooking the bow river.
- Relatively easy access to paid parking.

- Main park areas;
- Centre Street Bridge backdrop;
- Peace Bridge backdrop;
- Memorial Drive pedestrian bridge.
📸 Confederation Park:
- Conveniently located.
- Lots of green space and quite heavily treed.
- A small creek and some bridges.
- Gets sunset light through the trees which can turn out beautifully

📸 Glenmore Reservoir:
- Lots of different scenery at the reservoir
- Some of the best options would be down by the water which is really the only large body of water in Calgary.
- Beautiful sunsets.
- Relatively accessible from multiple locations.

- Weaselhead Natural Area parking, 6634 37 St SW;
- South Glenmore parking area West, 3520 90 Ave SW.
📸 Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park:
- Although outside city limits (to the west on the way to Cochrane), it’s worth the extra drive!
- Take the path to the right for a beautiful grove of huge trees, or keep going in the open spaces for stunning vistas and views of the mountains in the distance.
- Great light at sunset.
🌤 Preferred time of day for optimal photoshoot lighting:
- Early morning (soft light no harsh shadows); within 2 hours after sunrise
- At dusk / before sunset; within 2 hours before sunset
